Can an Invisibility Cloak Become a Reality?
Over the past few days I have seen quite a few blog and news articles about the real science behind making a real invisibility cloak (i.e. not a magic one). I found them pretty interesting because that is one of the most fascinating magic things Harry uses. Plus, it is a magic thing Harry Potter uses often through out the book series with it often being a very important object do thing such as sneak around Hogwarts and follow Malfoy in the Half-Blood Prince.
The whole science behind the cloaking device that has been developed at Duke University is a little too dense for me to understand, but it basically sounds like they make some sort of waves go around the cloaking thing and it makes it appear like the object covered with the cloaking device is not there at all. If you want to read more about this device, then I suggest checking out the sites I link to below, as they can explain it way better than I can even try to explain it, although none of them bring it down to my level of scientific understanding, which is sadly pretty low.
“Move Over Harry Potter, Duke Develops Invisibility Cloak” - This article also mentions something about how a flying car might become a reality based on recent news from a MIT project.
“2009 Tech Predictions: Five Technologies That Could Go From Movies To Reality” - This article talks also talks about Strength-Enhancing Exoskeleton Armor from Iron Man, Levitation from Star Wars, X-Ray Vision from Superman, and Time Travel from Back to the Future.
“New cloaking surface throws an electromagnetic curveball” - This one is more scientifically technical than the others.
