Happy Birthday Draco

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

you miserable boy.

According to J.K. Rowling’s website, today, June 5th, is Draco Malfoy’s birthday.

Draco has been Harry’s mini-nemisis since his first day at Hogwarts. He, Draco, embodies nearly every vile trait a wizard can possess; he is vain, arrogant, cowardly, bigoted, greedy and plain old mean. He compensates for his lack of wizardly talent with tricks and bullying (a little like you know who, I’d say).

It should be interesting to see what role he plays in the final book. Presently he does not have any redeeming qualities, except that he is still young -

Draco’s Starting to Look…Older.

Friday, February 9th, 2007

UniversHarryPotter.com, a French Harry Potter site, has new image up of Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) from the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. (Also find the image here) As you can see, it’s just a straight-forward publicity-type image…and one thing instantly jumps out at me:

Although Daniel, Emma and Rupert still fit the image of teenage wizards, Tom’s looking a little…mature.

Maybe it’s just his scowling expression, but he looks like he could pass for 26 more easily than he can pass for 16. Either way, he still works for the part (and I don’t think I could handle any of the actors changing at this point) as he isn’t supposed to have the boyish charm of Daniel or Rupert. He needs an edge. He needs to be that guy we all knew in high school who looked a couple years older than everyone else and used that to his advantage to try to bully the Harry’s and Ron’s of the school.

Harry’s Sister? Barbie Potter? These things are kinda weirding me out.

First, let me say something nice about these before I talk about how they kinda weird me out: They’re amazingly detailed…and the clothes and shoes are truly impressive.

But that hair. It gives me the jibblies.

Is that Harry? It looks a little more like Harry’s long-lost sister. Actually, it’s almost a spitting-image of my Mom in the late 70’s/early 80’s.

I don’t mean to be hard on these dolls, but they really do look a little possessed. Maybe that’s just the nature of dolls, but Harry looks like he’s going to conjure up an axe and bludgeon people.

But Harry’s not all there is. There’s also a Mary Kate Olsen doll. Or is it Ashley? Actually…it’s Ron Weasley. If you want to see it… (more…)
