Daniel Radcliffe Speaks About Equus

Daniel Radcliffe defends his decision to bare all in a new production of Equus, according to an article in The Post Chronicle.
In Daniel’s words:
“I’m fine about it. Equus is an iconic play. The nude scene is part of it. I can’t do it with my pants on. That would be rubbish. We’ve done the scene a couple of times in rehearsal. I had no particular qualms. There’s nothing that would stop me getting my kit off if that’s what the work demands.
“The key to serious acting is to lose your inhibitions, to become free and fearless. I feel Ok about my body. Not totally, of course, but no one my age does…but I’ve gone to the gym to make sure. And many of the actors I admire, like Gary Oldman, have gone naked.”

I think it’s very brave of Daniel to do this. It’s very difficult for actors to move onto other roles when they become so famous in one. I wish him all the best in the rest of his career–AFTER they film the 7th H.P. movie, that is

I wrote about this on my Parenting Teens blog, as well. Radcliffe seems to be a mature young man who’s capable of making his own decisions. Some teenagers are. I think it actually shows courage to do this. Most teens, no matter how good they look, do not feel comfortable enough with their bodies to do something like this.

I just can’t get over these pictures. Instead of trying to rid the image of Harry couldn’t he have had a normal 20 something reaction? Partying, making a movie with Lindsay Lohan? ANYTHING that didn’t lead to him on a stage nekkid in love with a horse? Ew.

Acting is a lot more productive than partying or making sub par movies with american celebrities who are not as together as he is. It’s his life, he’s a legal adult, and his parents are still chaperoning him and stuff (which must be weird while working on this play, lol). I think he should do whatever he wants to do and he’s making pretty good choices so far. I have a feeling this whole issue will help a lot of people deal with their discomfort with sexuality, just because he and Harry Potter are so high profile.

You know, I read the article and I read the comments. Everyone is talking about the fact that Daniel Radcliff is going to get naked. No one is talking about the play itself or why Mr. Radcliff chose this play. This must be an amazing play. I have never heard of it, but I imagine if he is will to take his clothes off for the part then the play must be worth it. Sometimes people fail to see the truth in a play. They are blinded by actions with in the play.

Some people are making a big deal over the nude bits in the play. But really, Daniel is, I think, old enough to make his own decisions. It really is his life, and if some parents have a problem with their kids learning about it, then that’s not Daniels problem. He is doing what he loves to do: acting. And not only is he acting, he is contributing to the art of drama and literature (it is a play, after all) Acting, like he said is not inhibited by clothes. It is, I suppose an art! Think of Shakespeare.
And the fact that people are still thinking he is Harry Potter is a bit annoying. Harry Potter is a character; Daniel Radcliffe is an actor and he has the right to take part in whatever he wants to do if he feels it will contribute to his career and I congratulate him!

i honestly have to say, that i’m extremely disapointed. who would go so far as to taking their close for their job? it’s only for money and i think that after all the harry potter movies he’d have enough of it. it’s ruined my image of him. an dalthough i think it’s fine to take your clothes off in front of a camera it’s just done for the wrong reasons. people should do something with their lives instead of reading scripts and being someone they’re not for a living. celebrities are the reason our world is dying.

Last person to leave a reply, Brianna, I can’t say I agree with you. He’s not in it solely for the money. He’s in it because he loves to act. He is doing what he loves. Also, if we didn’t have actors, we would have none of our favorite TV shows, no movies, no plays. Celebrities don’t ever ask to be famous, it comes to them. Some abuse it, yes, but on the same token, there are those that don’t. Let him do what he wants, because he’s entitled to it.
And quite frankly, he didn’t make nearly as much money as people think he did. Yes, a very exorbitant sum, considering he was a child actor, but it’s not nearly as much as some other actors get just for a few movies.

I dont know how people like him could do that
It’s really an awfull thing to do.
If actors think that going on nude in front
of public can win them confidence to do any
role in future I think it’s really stupid

I agree with 654676.If Daniel thinks he can get the guts to do other characters through this It’s rubbish.

Commenter 8 (Brianna), how could you say that? He is definitely not doing this for the money. Why would he? If he was in it for money, he would go find a play or film that pays a lot more. I think he just wants to act. Remember that thing nobody praises him for anymore? Acting? Everybody’s going on and on about the nudity that it’s getting harder to focus on the acting part of it. Why is it such a big deal? Other actors have done it, too. He’s just an actor that’s in a play where there’s a nudity scene. I repeat: He’s not in it for the money, he’s in it for the acting!

I would like to add that some of you *coughcoughBRIANNAcoughcough* might want to learn how to spell before you post a comment.
February 10th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
brianna, besides learning how to spell, why don’t you take a look at your life. Would you honestly take off your “close” (l.o.l.) in front of a camera just because? Geez… you really need to re-think life.
February 10th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
ok… hold on, mistake there Brianna, would you take your cloths off, even if money was involved,in front of a camera? I mean, Daniel Radcliffe is a great actor, don’t get me wrong, but I think he’s demeaning (sp) himself by doing it. I still think of him as a great actor, and kinda cute, but, it kinda made me re-think what people did, and why.
