The sixth chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is called “Draco’s Detour.” Harry spends the summer holidays at the Burrow playing two on two Quidditch with Hermione, Ron, and Ginny. the holidays, especially his birther, have been mared by continued bad news about disappearances and deaths.

Harry learns he is now Gryffindor’s Quidditch Captain when he gets his book list. Mrs. Weasley decides it is time for a trip to Diagon Alley for their school supplies. Ministry of Magic cars charmed to be spacious inside take them to Diagon Alley. Hagrid meets them at the Leaky Cauldron as Harry’s protection. Harry, Ron, and Hermione go wtih him to Madam Malkin’s to get new robes.

They encounter Draco Malfoy also getting fitted for new robes. Harry gets in a verbal battle with Draco’s mother, Narcissa, who tells him Dumbledore will not always be there to protect him. Looking back this sort of relates to her knowing about what Draco is up to and what happens near the end of the book.

After a few more stops they make their final stop at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, which is Fred and George’s joke shop. The shop is very crowded and a variety of joke items are mentioned as Harry pushes his way through the shop. Just a few mentioned include Skivey Snackboxes, Nosebleed Nougat, and Resusable Hangman. They finally are spotted by Fred, who gives Hermione a yellow paste bruise remover for her purple eye she got in Chapter Five.

Fred and George then give Harry a tour of the shop. This includes explaining there serious line of products that includes Shield Hats that the Ministry of Magic bough 500 of for their support staff. They tell Harry that he can take whatever he wants as he gave them there start up loan.

The next scene in the joke shop is of the twins telling Hermione and Ginny about the Wonder Witch products. These products are geared towards females. The product line includes love potions and pimple vanisher.

Harry sees Draco slip off alone along Diagon Alley. Hermione, Ron, and him slip under the Invisibility Cloak to follow Draco. They find him at Brogin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley. Using an Extendable Ear they overhear Draco ask for help in fixing something he already owns, but does not have with him. Draco also tells the man to keep an item safe, however they do not know what he is referring to. Hermione goes in and makes up a lame story to try to find our what the item is, but she fails. They then sneak back to the joke shop and convince the worried others they were just in the back room.
