Harry Potter Fans and Owls as Pets

I read an article today about pet trends becoming fashionable, such as carrying little dogs in purses and dressing dogs in outfits. The article was mostly about dogs, but it also brought up that there has been a trend of Harry Potter fans wanting owls as pets. I never really thought about getting so obsessed with something to want a pet because of it, but then again I just never have been much into pets and being near animals. Yes, I do like animals and photographing them, but the only pets I will ever own are fish and I pretty much never touch animals, expect being brushed against by dogs or cats at other people’s houses.

Basically I just thought it was an interesting concept that there is at least a small niche (perhaps large) that want to own owls as pets because they are that into Harry Potter. I would not say that it is absurd to own an owl as a pet. In fact I think it is an interesting concept. I just would not want one myself.

What do you think about owning an owl because Harry Potter has one? Would you like one or do you think that is a little overboard (or maybe way overboard) fan obsession?
