Hogwarts Herald in New Zealand

by David

I was reading this article about Harry Potter in the New Zealand Herald when I came across this paragraph:

One theory at the Hogwarts Herald blog site (www.hogwartsherald.com) referred to Harry Potter’s late parents: “The title Deathly Hallows definitely brings to mind Godric’s Hollow - which as we know was the final hiding place of James and Lily Potter.”

How cool. It took a few seconds after reading this for it to register — “Wait…They just mentioned Hogwarts Herald. Oh my God.”

Now about that quote:

The post this quote came from can be found here. In that post I wrote down many of the best theories I was able to find about the title Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows…ideas from others posted on various forums or ideas that popped into my mind.

Of all the theories from that post I find it odd they chose to use this one…maybe just because I don’t think “Deathly Hallows” and “Godric’s Hollow” will have much of anything to do with each other. I added that particular theory mostly to acknowledge the alphabetic closeness of the words “Hallows” and “Hollows.” And because I kept seeing people mixing up the two and wanted to help clear up the difference between them…and the fact that they’re most likely not connected (though who really knows what J.K. Rowling will create…she always surprises us?).

Here’s the full quote from the original Hogwarts Herald post:

10. Although “Hollow and “Hallow are two different words, the title Deathly Hallows definitely brings to mind “Godric’s Hollow—which as we know was the final hiding place of James and Lily Potter. It certainly makes sense that Godric’s Hollow will find it’s way into Book 7, even though there’s likely no connection between them and the Deathly Hallows.

But even though the quote isn’t quite in context in the New Zealand Herald article, it makes sense how she (Martha McKenzie-Minifie) uses the quote…using it to help show the vast potential the title Deathly Hallows holds.

It’s really cool to have Hogwarts Herald mentioned in the NZ Herald…and I’m a huge fan of New Zealand (I’ve had the pleasure of visiting New Zealand, and it’s probably the most beautiful country I’ve ever laid eyes on), and often pop by the New Zealand Herald to get a different perspective on the news of the world.

Thanks for quoting Hogwarts Herald, Martha!
