J.K. Rowling speaks about Book 7

On her official site J.K. Rowling has posted a new message on her “diary.”
In the diary entry she starts, “The long lack of updates has been due to some very hard work. I’m now writing scenes that have been planned, in some cases, for a dozen years or even more.”
It sounds like nice progress is being made on Book 7. She goes on to say, “I both want, and don’t want, to finish this book (don’t worry, I will.)”
This is very understandable, isn’t it? I think we all feel the same way. We can’t wait to see what happens…how everything gets resolved…but we don’t want it to be final. They say you should always “leave them wanting more,” and J.K. Rowling will definitely be doing this when the final book is printed. How could we not want more?
In her diary note J.K. Rowling goes on to write of a Potterish dream she’s had recently. It sounds like a fantastic dream—but it’s best read as a whole, so I won’t rehash much of it here. I will analyze a quick bit of it, however (I don’t pretend to be a dream analyzer, but this one seems pretty straight forward to me).
She writes, “Meanwhile waiters and waitresses who work in the real cafe in which I have written huge parts of book seven roamed around me as though on stilts, all of them at least fifteen feet high. Perhaps I should cut back on the caffeine?”
To me this sounds like a stress or worry about the public finding out about Book 7. Her mind takes her to the one public place where the book sees the light of day, and the people there have the one vantage point where they can see what she doesn’t want anyone to see. And beyond that it’s a coordinated effort. It’s not just one waiter or waitress, it’s all of them. I don’t think she needs to cut down on caffeine…I think she should listen to her subconscious mind telling her to be very careful with Book 7. Even if the situation is seemingly a benign one.
Interesting stuff, Jo. Keep it coming.
She ends her diary entry by writing of a recent day trip to see a bit of Movie #5, Order of the Phoenix. She says it “looks fantastic,” and while there she had the chance to talk to Daniel, Rupert, Emma and Evanna (who is playing Luna Lovegood). Sounds like a fantastic day trip to me…wouldn’t mind having that little trip myself.
One last nugget updated on J.K. Rowling’s web site…she addresses a rumor that most people didn’t think would happen, but was still being tossed about online:
“At the end of book seven, Harry and Voldemort will ‘merge’ to form a single persona who will command both the forces of good and of evil.
This is not really a rumour, more a lone theory on the net that the son of a friend of mine pointed out to me. He wants me to repudiate it, so I’m repudiating: Harry will NOT merge with Voldemort to become a single entity, nor would Harry ever wish to command Death Eaters/Dementors/Inferi.”
