Real Life Half-Blood Prince Locations
Here is an article I read yesterday about some of the real life locations that are related to the upcoming theatrical release, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It talks about five places to visit and the scenes that take place there related to the books and movies with a main focus on how they might appear in the sixth movie due out this summer.
The first location the article mentions is Hogwarts Library. The filming location for this is Duke Humpfrey’s reading room in the Oxford’s Bodleian Library. This is a medieval library that you can visit on a paid tour. There is expected to be at least one scene of Harry and Hermione in the library in the sixth movie relating to when Hermione is trying to find out about horcuxes.
The second location mentioned in the article is Madam Pomfrey’s Infirmary. There is expected to be at least one scene of the main characters in the Hogwart’s hospital wing, as there is actually a good number of visits here (actually many of the books have at least several scenes here) in the sixth book and it would be confusing if they skipped at least the important ones. The ceiling of the infirmary is at the Divinity School at Oxford University’s Bodleian Library, which is located right below the play they film Hogwart’s Library.
The third location is Hogwarts Great Hall, which has to be in the film because one of the stills is of several of the main characters sitting at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall. The Great Hall was inspired by the Christ Church Dining Hall at Oxford. That exact location was not used in the filming, though, because it would only work if there were only four houses.
The fourth location is the Staircase Outside the Great Hall. This is believed to be in the film when Snape escorts Harry to the Great Hall after his late arrival to the school because of the incident with Malfoy on the Hogwarts Express. The staircase is at Christ Church Dining Hall.
The final location the article talks about is Diagon Alley. It is probably safe to assume the movie will have the scene from the book when Harry, Ron, and Hermione go to Diagon Alley for school supplies and then follow Malfoy to Knockturn Alley. The real life location related to Diagon Alley is Leadenhall Market in London.
